The people in these stories were transformed by their encountes with Jesus. By entering into their marvelous stories, you will encouner Jesus in a personal way and develop a deeper relationship with him that will transform your evereday life.

The Crusades

When we think of the Crusades, we often call to mind images of conflict and competition between the world’s three Abrahamic faiths. Glorified in its time, the Crusades are now seen as a troubling chapter of world history. Like all historical events, however, the Crusades cannot be viewed in black and white terms. Rather, we must examine their complex historical and cultural context.

.In this 12-topic audio or video course, you will look at the Crusades through the eyes of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, coming to understand the importance of the Holy Land to all three groups. You will also gain a fuller appreciation for the ideas of just war and jihad that were at work during the Middle Ages. Along with the three major faiths, you will also explore crusade arts, letters, and architecture. You will encounter the Templars, the notion of crusading in popular history, why myths persist, and the state of Christian-Muslim relations today.

Understanding the Crusades is necessary for all Christians today. You will find this course fascinating.

The class will meet beginning Sept.4th to Nov.20 on Tuesday morning from 7:00-8:15 am in Conference room (PLC 6).  Each class will include a video presentation by Professor Christopher Bellitto and a book by Thomas F. Madden entitled, “The New Concise History of the Crusades…” all of which will be facilitated by Dc. Spenser Silvers.  Participants should purchase the book from book distributors.

Kingdom of Happiness: Living the Beatitudes in Everyday Life

In a world that offers fleeting pleasures in place of true happiness and false promises that actually lead us away from happiness, it is time more than ever to turn to the Beatitudes and enter into the Kingdom of Happiness. It’s not a new path. In fact, Jesus showed us the way to happiness many centuries ago through the Beatitudes. Kingdom of Happiness is an eight-week study that will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Fish Room; this course began on Sept. 20. This study will be facilitated by Elaine Goth and Elaine Mannella. Register online at holyfamilyorlando.com/Religious Education/Adult Faith Formation. For more information, contact Elaine Mannella at emt6250@yahoo.com. Workbooks are available in the Holy Family Gift and Bookstore for $29.95.
