The Rite of Committal is the conclusion of the funeral rites. These prayers are generally celebrated at the grave, tomb, or other place of burial. “Whenever possible, the rite of committal is to be celebrated at the side of committal, that is, beside the open grave or the place of interment, rather than in a cemetery chapel.” [Order of Christian Funerals, #204.]
The Rite of Committal is usually celebrated directly after the Funeral Mass if the burial takes place at this time. It can be celebrated at a later date if the burial is delayed for whatever reason. Holy Family Catholic Church will provide a priest or deacon for the Rite of Committal.
